LEED Certified Buildings Encourage Green Cleaning Products

Since the early 2000’s we have had a substantial push for eco-friendly products. It is hard not to notice the important changes that many companies have been taking in order to help sustain the environment. Janitorial Supply Companies such as Brighton USA have been one of the catalysts in the “green” movement, providing their commercial cleaning products to other companies that are environmentally conscious. In 2000, the U.S. Green Building Council created an environmentally friendly building certification system called LEED. LEED, stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Essentially LEED certified buildings are ones that are constructed, designed, and maintained to be eco friendly. Companies such as Brighton USA, provide LEED certified buildings with green cleaning products and energy efficient lighting so they maintain their certification. How are LEED certified buildings measured?

There are many ways that LEED certified buildings are measured but we’ll discuss a couple. The LEED committees use a consensus based process to measure these buildings. Some of the key areas that the committees focus on are sustainable sites, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. To be considered a sustainable site the area of land has to be constructed on developed land. Also, the site cannot impact waterways or ecosystems. A second key area that the LEED committee focuses on is materials used. This area focuses on reusing and recycling products. Another focus of this area is promoting the use of green cleaning products. In this situation, the Janitorial Supply Company, Brighton USA, can help a building become LEED certified. A third area that the LEED committee focuses is on indoor environmental quality. This area encourages buildings to use strategies to improve their air quality. The use of eco friendly cleaning products has been known to significantly improve the quality of indoor air because they typically have zero toxicity. Those were just some of the key areas a company would need to focus on in order to become LEED certified.

Now more than ever, companies are making changes in order to become more environmentally friendly. Some companies produce green products and others use them to be considered environmentally friendly. With LEED certified buildings there are certain standards that most be upheld in order to maintain the LEED certification. The use of energy efficient lighting and eco friendly cleaning products is one area that will help a building become LEED certified. The Staten Island Cleaning supplies company, Brighton USA, a provider of facility care products, has been doing their part to encourage the environmentally friendly movement while promoting LEED certified buildings.

Green Labels: The Proof Behind Cleaning Products
Many organizations claim that their products are better or safer because they are “eco friendly cleaning products.”  However, what proof do these people have to back up their statements?  Sure a business owner can make a claim on his or her website or get an “expert” in the field.  However, the only way to truly know if a product is safe is to have Green Labels or Seals of approval.  Brighton’s products have the Green Seal Label, one of the oldest and most trusted labels in the business.  The Green Seal was one of the very first to start labeling things green, starting in 1989, and it has grown to have some of the very best scientific research to ensure that the products baring their seal are the safest on the market.

Envirox is another great example, having labels such as the Healthy Schools Campaign and EcoLogo Certifications.  These certifications show that we endorse products that are safe enough to be used in schools and around our children, as well as having substantial testing to demonstrate their safety.  We only want to sell the safest, most useful products to all our customer’s and we want that to be known to anyone who sees the Brighton logo.

Besides the obvious reasons of having a product that is safer for the environment, there are countless benefits for businesses to use these commercial cleaning products. A poll conducted by Harris Interactive found 84% of all adults 18 and older would prefer to use green cleaning products to non-green certified ones.  This shows that most people would not only like cleaning products to have a positive impact on the environment, but there is a market for their repeat business as well.  Utilizing eco friendly cleaning products creates benefits that most people wouldn’t even think about.  Employees will stay healthier because these products have fewer chemicals in their formulas to cause allergic reactions; they also have little to no carcinogens making cancer from these products basically non-existent.  Also, green cleaning products don’t eat away at wood, chrome, or fade upholsteries like many non-green products will, making your office last longer and look better.  The list is seemingly endless, and with the proof in the labels your business can flourish by using green commercial cleaning products.  To learn more about our green cleaning products, contact us or check out our catalog
